Dillon Motor Speedway To Host Prestigious 15th Annual New Year’s Bash
by Hunter Thomas December 29, 2024 0 commentsDILLON, SC – Dillon Motor Speedway is gearing up for the 15th annual New Year’s Bash, which will feature six divisions, including Dirt Super Late Models and Street Stocks, Jan. 3-5, 2025.
The race weekend held just off Exit 193 on I-95 has grown into one of the most prestigious events in grassroots racing. Drivers from across the country flock to Dillon Motor Speedway to test their skills against stacked fields, local weekend warriors and some of the most talented drivers stock car racing has to offer.
“This year’s event is going to be bigger than ever,” said Track Owner/Operator Ron Barfield. “We already have an impressive entry list for all divisions. This year, we’re adding Dirt Super Late Model drivers to the schedule. Dirt racing is extremely popular here in South Carolina, so we’re excited to have the regional dirt stars join us. It’s going to be a fun show!”
The main event for the weekend will be a 100-lap, $2,000 to-win Street Stock race. Last year, Gary Ledbetter won his sixth New Year’s Bash, and he’ll make a return looking to defend his record-setting victory; however, he’ll have to outrun Darlington, SC’s Ricky Locklair Jr., Massachusetts’ Tommy O’Sullivan, last year’s runner up from New Hampshire, Alby Ovitt and a host of others. The field of Street Stock drivers will be set by heat races, and new to this year, the top points finisher from the 2024 STAR Super Stock Tour season will be granted a provisional starting spot if needed. The Tour is joining the Mid-Atlantic Street Stock Series (MASS) for this event.
“The Street Stock feature is always an intense race,” said Barfield. “The drivers and their teams have traveled across the state and the country and have put so much time and effort into their race cars. No one wants to go home empty handed, so they will all be competing hard for the trophy and the $2,000 check.”
The race weekend will get underway on Friday, Jan. 3 with all-day practice sessions. Gates open at 9 a.m., with practice being held from 12 – 4 p.m. There will also be a Pit Party on Friday night featuring live music, food, drinks, fireworks and a bonfire.
On Saturday, Jan. 4, gates open at 8 a.m., followed by practice sessions from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Qualifying will get underway at 3 p.m. for the UCAR/Pure Stocks, Legend Cars, Challengers/Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Super Late Models and Carolina Mini Stock Challenge (CMSC) 4 Cylinders. The green flag will wave at 5 p.m. to kick off the night of racing. The Legend Cars will run a B-Main and an A-Main. The Dirt Super Late Models will run 25 laps. The Challengers/Limited Late Models will run 75 laps, and the UCAR/Pure Stocks will run 30 laps.
On Sunday, Jan. 5, gates open at 9 a.m. with practice beginning at 11 a.m. The green flag will wave at 2 p.m. The Legend Cars will kick the day off with a B Main, followed by CMSC B Main if needed, Street Stock Last Chance race, CMSC 60-lap A-Main, Legend Cars 30-lap A-Main and finally, the 100-lap Street Stock grand finale.
