BROOKLYN, Mich. – Joey Logano held off Kurt Busch in NASCAR Overtime to capture his second victory of the season in Monday’s rain-postponed Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Logano put on a dominant performance in his Team Penske No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford on Monday evening as he lead 163 of 203 laps raced. Logano was clutch on the final restart and never looked back as he went on to win his 23rd-career series victory.

“You race this whole race; you keep building that notebook up,” Logano said. “What a great execution day from our racecar, obviously very fast, our pit crew was amazing. T.J. Majors spotted his butt off up there. The race fans sticking around till Monday.”

Loagno continued and said, “We love coming up to Michigan. Nothing like bringing a Ford to Victory Lane in their home turf, Roger Penske cars as well. This is a big win for us.”

Kurt Busch finished in the second position on Monday in the Chip Ganassi Racing No. 1 Monster Energy Chevrolet, earning his ninth top-10 finish of 2019. Busch has yet to reach Victory Lane this season. Sunday’s effort marked his second runner-up finish of the season.

“That’s more than what I was hoping to see for damage,” said Busch when he saw the damage to his car following the race. “But I had a blast. Tightest I ever put my belts at the end of a race. We got enough stage points today, we said hell with it, we don’t need to get anything but the win. We got second today.”

Busch continued, “Logano’s car was tough. I really wanted it to go green at the end with (Martin) Truex. I was going to push him straight through the 22. My best shot at it. What a day for our Camaro. From Chevy and Monster, thank you, guys. We’ll get it. It gives us reason to smile and be happy. We ran up front, were strong in our manufacturer’s backyard, but got second today.”

Martin Truex Jr. rallied hard to finish third. The driver of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 Auto-Owners Insurance Toyota has earned 10 top-10 finishes in 27 starts at Michigan International Speedway.

Daniel Suarez and Kyle Busch finished in the top-five on Monday. Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Ryan Blaney and Alex Bowman completed the top-10.

In the rain-postponed race, there were seven cautions for a total of 35 laps. A spin by Erik Jones with just a few laps remaining set the field up for NASCAR Overtime and extended the 200-lap race to 203 laps.

Heading into the off-weekend for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, Logano leads the points standings by nine points over Kyle Busch.

When the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series returns to competition, the drivers will take on the winding turns of Sonoma Raceway for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 on Sunday, June 23. Live coverage will broadcast on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and the Performance Racing Network (PRN) at 3 p.m. ET.
