Layne Riggs Survives Double Overtime In New Hampshire; Chase Lineup Set With Ankrum Earning Final Spot
by Hunter Thomas August 22, 2026 0 commentsLOUDON, NH – Layne Riggs earned his sixth victory of the season in double NASCAR Overtime on Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The driver of the Front Row Motorsports No. 34 BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing Ford dominated the majority of the Team EJP 175, including leading a race high of 106 laps. Riggs held command of the final 71 laps, but he had to survive two Overtime restarts. On the first, Rio Ruggiero slid up into Riggs as they entered Turn 1 and spun. Riggs prevailed on the second and secured his 11th career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win.
“We had a good crowd today,” Riggs said. “I thought I was in trouble there for a little while. I got back to third or fourth-place and just really couldn’t do anything with the truck. I was just really, really tight, and we just couldn’t get the right adjustment, but that last adjustment that my crew chief and engineer made – Dylan Cappello and Jonathan Coates – was excellent all the way to the end. Thank you to Chandler Smith for running me really clean.”
Riggs’ teammate, Smith finished runner-up in the No. 38 The Pete Store – Celebrating 25 Years Ford. Smith started the race in 12th and was fourth in Stage 1 and second in Stage 2. At the end of the day, he had an opportunity, but he couldn’t top Riggs.
“Our No. 38 Pete Store Ford F-150 was good today,” Chandler said. “It was really good, just that last stop it felt like we went the wrong direction on our change. Between me not executing on pit road and maybe not making the right adjustment just put us back in the swamp. It wasn’t in the Lord’s Will for us to win this one. We’ll learn from it and move on.”
Kaden Honeycutt finished third, followed by Stewart Friesen, who missed out on The Chase and NASCAR Cup Series driver Connor Zilisch. Rounding out the top-10 was Tristan McKee, NASCAR Cup Series driver Christopher Bell, Daniel Hemric, Justin Haley and Parker Eatmon.
The race was the final event of the Regular Season. Advancing to The Chase, NASCAR’s version of the Postseason, is Riggs, Honeycutt, Smith, Christian Eckes, Ruggiero, Ty Majeski, Grant Enfinger, Daniel Hemric, Ben Rhodes and Tyler Ankrum.
There were six lead changes throughout the day among five drivers.
The caution flew on nine occasions for 56 laps
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ The Chase will kickoff at Bristol Motor Speedway on Thursday, Sept. 17. Live coverage of the UNOH 250 presented by Ohio Logistics and Bush’s Beans 200 will broadcast live on FS1 at 8 p.m.
