Kyle Busch Capitalizes On Late Restart To Win NASCAR Xfinity Series Texas Race
by Hunter Thomas March 31, 2019 0 commentsFORT WORTH, Tex. – Kyle Busch continued his winning ways by backing Friday’s NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series victory up with a win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series My Bariatric Solutions 300 at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday.
On the final restart with just six laps to go, Busch, got a huge jump on Tyler Reddick, who started alongside of him on the front row. Busch held onto the lead in the final laps en route to visiting Victory Lane for the third time this season in the series. The 33-year-old now has 95 series victories.
“We jumped the field there and I was worried about the restart,” said Busch, driver of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 iK9 Toyota. “I just didn’t think there was going to be enough grip. This car certainly had enough grip in it. I can’t thank iK9, the First Foundation – this Toyota Supra was awesome today.”
Reddick captured a runner-up finish, his best performance so far this season in the Richard Childress Racing No. 2 Chevrolet.
Christopher Bell finished third after starting from the pole, winning Stage 1 and leading a race high of 127 laps. The driver of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 Ruud Toyota Supra was disappointed with the result after he dominated the afternoon.
“He wasn’t better than us anywhere, he just had track position there,” Bell said about Busch. “I don’t know, I was really starting to struggle there on that long run, so whenever they said we were putting two tires on I was all for it. I didn’t get any better, and those guys didn’t slow down. A very disappointing day, but we’re in the Dash 4 Cash, so that’s pretty cool. My goal was to make sure that we were in the top-four Xfinity guys. Very frustrating to lose one like that, but really proud of this team. This Rudd Supra was extremely fast and the class of the field.”
Chase Briscoe and Jeb Burton completed the top-five. Rounding out the top-10 was Michael Annett, Justin Haley, Jeffrey Earnhardt, John Hunter Nemechek and Stage 2 winner, Ryan Sieg.
Throughout the My Bariatric Solutions 300, there were nine cautions for 50 laps.
Following Saturday’s race, Reddick leads Bell in the standings by 12 points.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series will visit Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 6. The Alsco 300 will broadcast live at 1 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and the Performance Racing Network (PRN).
