CONCORD, N.C. – The longest race of the year ended quickly for Brad Keselowski and Chase Elliott.

Keselowski crashed into the back of Elliott to bring out the caution on lap 21 of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Elliott hit a part that broke off Jeffrey Earnhardt’s No. 33 car. The underside of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Napa Chevy caught fire and left oil on the track. When Elliott tried to stop and move out of the way, Keselowski slid on the oil and slammed into his back bumper.

Elliott wasn’t sure what he initially hit.

“Yeah, I saw parts and pieces flying,” Elliott said. “I don’t know if he blew a tire or something and ended up hitting something that he had on track.  I hit it pretty hard. It was really solid, so I knew it was rough.”

Keselowski tried to avoid Elliott but had nowhere to go.

“There were two cars broke in front of me and just oil everywhere,” he said. “You couldn’t stop and turn.  You couldn’t do anything.  It’s a real bummer four our team.  We had a really fast Miller Lite Ford and I think we had a shot at winning tonight, but that’s how it goes.”
