Chase Briscoe Edges Teammate Christopher Bell In Photo Finish At Charlotte Motor Speedway
by Hunter Thomas October 11, 2026 0 commentsCONCORD, NC – Chase Briscoe edged Christopher Bell in Charlotte Motor Speedway’s second closest finish in a NASCAR Cup Series race.
Briscoe had a decent lead over Bell with two laps to go in the Bank of America 400, but on the final lap, Bell caught his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, and they banged doors to the checkered flag. Briscoe won by a mere 0.029 seconds for his third victory of the season and the eighth of his career.
“Yeah, when Christopher (Bell) got into me off of (turn) four, I kind of got sideways, and I thought I was going to wreck,” Briscoe said. “I’m like I am going to get beat to the line, so I assume he got really sideways too. My right front was coming apart. Another lap I thought we were going to blow a right front tire. I’m glad that we won, but I wish they weren’t so stressful. I don’t have very much hair to begin with, but I’m definitely losing it really quickly. Just an awesome day and really cool to end up in victory lane.”
This is also the first time Briscoe has ever won back-to-back races as well. Last weekend he prevailed in another thrilling finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and on Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, he finished second in Stage 1, seventh in Stage 2 and led 62 laps while piloting the No. 19 Freebird Spring Water Toyota.
“Very, very special,” Briscoe said. “I think this is only the second ever time that all of us (family members) have been at a win. Super special to be able to experience these type of things with family. It is awesome when you win, but they are on the grind with us and for them to be here and experience this is memories that will be forever for me. Really cool day to get to victory lane with them here, my grandparents are here and I don’t think they have been to a race since 2019. Really cool just to have everyone here.”
On the flipside, Bell was absolutely shocked that he even caught Briscoe on the final lap. Bell had a stout day in the No. 20 DeWalt Toyota. He ran up front all day, but unfortunately, he only gained four points in The Chase and now trails point leader Kyle Larson by 51 points.
Ryan Blaney finished third, and Josh Berry and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top-five. Larson finished sixth, followed by Shane van Gisbergen, Tyler Reddick, Joey Logano and Chase Briscoe.
Larson won Stage 1, and Bell won Stage 2.
There were 11 lead changes among five drivers. Larson led a race high of 97 laps. Bell led 93 laps.
There were six cautions for 33 laps. Only two were for multicar accidents.
The first crash happened on Lap 43, when Ty Gibbs and Brad Keselowski made contact in Turns 3 and 4. Both drivers continued. Keselowski finished 29th, and Gibbs finished 34th.
The second occurred on Lap 77, when Alex Bowman lost control in Turn 2 and slammed into Bubba Wallace, who made hard contact with the outside wall and inside wall. Bowman’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, William Byron was also involved.

Leaving Charlotte, Hamlin trails Larson by 49 points in The Chase, followed by Bell. Briscoe is now 65 points back, and the first driver who is more than a race’s worth of points back is Blaney, who trails by 85 points.
The NASCAR Cup Series will now head West to Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, Oct. 18, for the Freeway Insurance 500. Live coverage will broadcast on USA at 3 p.m. ET.
