William Byron Loses Wheel While Leading At New Hampshire Motor Speedway
by Hunter Thomas August 23, 2026 0 commentsLOUDON, NH – William Byron lost a left-rear wheel while leading the Dollar Tree 301 in the final stage at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The driver of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet entered the race just 23 points outside of the top-10 in points but will now will need to gain even more valuable points heading into the final race of the Regular Season at Daytona International Speedway next weekend.
Byron took two tires on his previous stop and had been out in front of the field for 26 laps throughout the afternoon. He started the race in third, finished Stage 1 in fourth, fell back and finished Stage 2 in 13th and was back in contention for the victory when the accident occurred. He is still competing in the race.
Byron is winless this season but has amassed four top-five and 11 top-10 finishes throughout the first 24 races.
