SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – South Boston Speedway has unveiled it’s tentative 2019 schedule which includes 14 race dates, visits from three touring series and the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on March 30.

The historic southern Virginia oval will kick off its 62nd season on Saturday, March 16 featuring twin 100-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock cars, a 50-lap Limited Sportsman division race, a 30-lap Budweiser Pure Stock race and a 15-lap Budweiser Hornets division race.
“We believe we’ve got another great season in store for our fans and competitors,” said South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice. “We’ve got lots of racing for our four weekly divisions and we have some awesome touring series coming in. It should be another great season of racing for South Boston Speedway.”

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour last competed at South Boston in 2001 in a race won by Jerry Marquis. He defeated 33 other modified competitors that night, including NASCAR Hall of Famer Mike Stefanik and the late Ted Christopher, who finished second and third that night.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour ran 11 races at South Boston from 2009 to 2016.

This will be the first appearance for the unified Whelen Modified Tour at South Boston.

South Boston Speedway will again host its big Fourth of July week extravaganza, this year on June 29, with a night of racing and fireworks. The evening will be anchored by a 200-lap Late Model Stock race, the longest race of the season. There will also be a 75-lap Limited Sportsman race, a 40-lap Budweiser Pure Stock race and a 20-lap Budweiser Hornets race. The biggest fireworks show in the region will close out the evening.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will make a stop at South Boston on Saturday, May 4 with its traditional twin 100-lap races.

The CARS Tour will again stage its championship weekend on November 2, the final action of the year at South Boston.
