Chase Briscoe Makes Statement With Dominant Las Vegas Win
by Hunter Thomas October 4, 2026 0 commentsLAS VEGAS, Nev. – Chase Briscoe dominated the South Point 400 on Sunday and held off a hard charging Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick to win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Briscoe put on a clinic, sweeping all stages and leading a race high of 175 laps; however, despite the incredible performance, he had to be clutch in the closing laps as Larson and Reddick chased him down and challenged for the top spot. On the final laps, as they rounded Turn 4, Briscoe sailed to victory, and Larson bounced off the wall, collecting Reddick.
“The aero is such a big deal,” Briscoe said. “On (Turns) 1 and 2 I felt like if I could somewhat cover where he (Larson) was at. It was a huge guessing game.
At (Turns) 3 and 4 I knew if I hit the bottom properly and slowed down, which I’m normally not very good at, he was going to have a hard time getting by me. Just glad I was able to hold on.”
The win marked only Briscoe’s second win of the season, and it allowed him to catapult two spots in The Chase standings. The driver of the Joey Gibbs Racing No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota now sits sixth, 84 points back from Larson who still leads.
“What an amazing day,” Briscoe said. “Thank you to all you fans. It was so hot out here, and you guys were still out here. I hope that was a good race. From my seat there at the end, I don’t know what else you could want from a cat and mouse standpoint.”
Larson was running a Kyle Busch-inspired scheme this weekend on his Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Chevrolet. The day started off terribly for Larson. He had to endure a lengthy pit stop in the beginning and then fight to get back onto the lead lap, but Larson was at the front when it mattered most. He did everything he could to pass Briscoe, but he just came up short and finished second.
Yeah, just tried to do what I could to try to win,” Larson said. “I moved up I feel like at the right time and did a decent job with it.
“Just was trying to push hard through three and four to just build some momentum at him to, I don’t know, try to get by down the straightaway. Yeah, just got really loose and overcorrected in the wall. Thankfully I was able to limp it home. Yeah, thankfully Reddick was able to come away third as well.”
Reddick spin through the grass and cross the finish line on pit road. He impressively held on to a third-place finish. Reddick earned stage points with a fourth in Stage 1, but he didn’t earn any in Stage 2. Nevertheless, the 23XI Racing driver performed well, overcame pit road adversity and captured his second top-five finish in The Chase.
“You know, it took us a little bit longer than we wanted to to get back to the front, but once we did, I thought we were in a pretty good spot there,” Reddick said. “Settled into I think it was fourth or fifth. Unfortunately, we just slow stop, we lost time in that cycle, and the 5 (Larson) and the 24 (William Byron) got in front of us.
“Ultimately, it probably played a part in just coming up a little short today, but yeah, I had to fight through the issues and, I mean, be able to hang onto it and still cross the line and hold onto third off the final corner. We fought through everything that we had really well today.”
Austin Cindric had another strong run as he finished fourth. His Team Penske teammate, Ryan Blaney rounded out the top-five. Byron finished sixth, followed by Chase Elliott, Bubba Wallace, Shane van Gisbergen and Joey Logano.
There were 12 lead changes among seven drivers.
There were four cautions for 21 laps, but only one caution was for an accident. On Lap 45, Zane Smith spun exiting Turn 4.
A few laps later, Denny Hamlin spun in Turn 4 while leading, but the caution didn’t come out. Hamlin finished 16th.
Leaving Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Larson leads The Chase by 40 points over Hamlin. Christopher Bell, who was fast, battled power steering issues. A 23rd-place finish on Sunday now puts him 55 points back in third. Logano is 71 points back in fourth. All over drivers are more than a race back in points.
The NASCAR Cup Series will now head to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Bank of America 400, which will be run on the oval this season. Live coverage will broadcast on the USA Network at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 11.
