MECHANICSVILLE, MD – Ray Kable took home $10,000 early Monday morning at Potomac Speedway in the Wayne Lacey Memorial after a late-race pass on Drake Troutman who dominated the Modified Mafia Tour feature.
The early stage of the 50-lap feature started with a pile-up in Turn 2 involving Drake Troutman, Austin Holcombe, Blake Tasker and a few others in the top-five; the accident set the tone for the feature. The wreck caused current point leader to restart at the tail with a wounded 8A.
As the laps ticked away, cars among the field like Blake Tasker were charging to regain positions lost. Troutman dominated the feature, pulling away while second-place Chris Arnold and third-place Kable were continuously battling. Arnold eventually gave up the position to Kable and then became under attack by the No. 35 of Altobelli.
Kable chased down Troutman with 20 to go and executed a clean pass down low, handing Troutman off to Arnold. In Turn 1, Troutman brought out the caution after contact with the No. 99W machine of Arnold.
The laps counted down as Kable took off with the top spot, Arnold hunting in second. When the checkard flag flew, Kable was out in front of the field, earning a massive win for the Sykesville, MD native. Heart break for Chris Arnold who would have finished second, but ended up pulling off the track one lap short of the finish. Finishing behind Kable was Altobelli, Blake Tasker, Austin Holcombe and Austin Self.
Jesse Rupe took home Heat No. 1 for the Modifieds with zero issues while Heat No. 2 was plagued with cautions. Robert Kramer brought it home in Heat No. 2 after getting wrapped up in a four-car pile up with two to go.
Holcombe had the fastest qualifying time of the night in the Modified class, which is what gave him the top spot for the Dash. He ultimately held on to the pole, holding off Troutman in a heated dash setting the front row for the main event.
The points battle is tight with Holcombe adding to his lead over now second-place holder Altobelli, as Arnold drops to third after his mistake Sunday night. Up next the Modified Mafia Tour will take to the clay at Wythe Speedway on Saturday, June 13.
