Denny Hamlin Crashes Hard In Practice At Martinsville Speedway
by Hunter Thomas November 2, 2024 0 commentsMARTINSVILLE, Va. – Denny Hamlin crashed early in opening practice at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday.
Hamlin enters the Xfinity 500 weekend on the outside looking in to the Championship 4. He’s currently 18 points behind William Byron who currently holds the fourth and final transfer spot.
With just over 21 minutes remaining in practice, Hamlin entered Turn 3, spun and backed his No. 11 Toyota into the outside wall. The cause of the crash was due to rubber buildup that hung the throttle. Hamlin’s car suffered heavy damage, but because he hit the wall so square, the team may not have to go to a backup car (developing story).
The Chesterfield, Va. native typically runs really well at Martinsville; he has won on five occasions. In this race last year, he finished third. Hamlin finished 11th back in the spring race this season.
The Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway will broadcast on NBC at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
