INDIANAPOLIS – Ty Gibbs won the Pennzoil 150 presented by Advance Auto Parts by more than seven seconds at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on Saturday, earning his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory of the year.

The last time Gibbs was in Victory Lane was at Phoenix Raceway last November when he was crowned the series champion. After jumping to the NASCAR Cup Series, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has only competed in seven NASCAR Xfinity Series races in 2023. On Saturday, he finished sixth in Stage 1 and second in Stage 2. He went on to lead a race high of 28 laps en route to winning the race. After the checkered flag, Gibbs was really amped up as he did a burnout around the majority of the course.

“Yeah, definitely felt like it was about time,” Gibbs said. “It’s really cool to get one here at the Brickyard. I grew up racing go-karts in New Castle right down the street, so really special to me. Thank you to He Gets Us – all glory to Jesus Christ. Awesome car, great car. Thank you to Jason Ratcliff (crew chief). Jason did such a great job. This is so special to me.”

Sam Mayer worked his way from a 15th-place starting spot to finish runner-up. The performance marked his third top-two finish in the last five races.

AJ Allmendinger who is always a contender for a win on a road course swept Stages 1 and 2, but he had to settle for a third-place finish.

Austin Hill and Justin Allgaier rounded out the top-five. Cole Custer finished sixth, followed by Parker Kligerman, Sheldon Creed, Kaz Grala who rebounded from a late-race spin and Brett Moffitt.

There were only three cautions for nine laps. None of the cautions were for multicar accidents.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series will once again turn left and right as the series visits Watkins Glen International on Saturday, August 19 for the Shriners Children’s 200. Live coverage of the race will broadcast on USA at 3:30 p.m. ET.
