RECAP/PHOTOS: Ashley, Capps, Stanfield and Savoie Earn Wins at Bristol Dragway
by Hunter Thomas June 21, 2022 0 commentsBRISTOL, Tenn. – The NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series roared through the mountains at Bristol Dragway on Sunday.
Throughout the Thunder Valley Nationals, Justin Ashley, Ron Capps, Aaron Stanfield and Jerry Savoie all earned wins in their respective classes.
In Top Fuel, Ashley captured his fourth victory of the season after he just barely beat Shawn Langdon to the line. Ashley’s margin of victory was only 0.028 seconds. However, that wasn’t the closest margin of victory for Ashely during the event. In Round 1, he outran Josh Hart by a mere 0.003 seconds, and then he went on to beat Doug Foley and Steve Torrence to reach the final.
Capps picked up his 70th-career Funny Car victory after outrunning Tim Wilkerson with a 3.984-second run. Capps’ final round run was the only effort that was sub four second in Funny Car on Sunday.
In Pro Stock, Aaron Stanfield soared across the finish line as Erica Enders’ car went up in smoke. Stanfield’s win put an end to Enders’ 14-round winning streak. Enders had been dominate all season long, dating back to March.
Savoie won his 14th-career Pro Stock Motorcycle win after defeating Angelle Sampey, who red-lighted. Savoie’s victory may have come easy in the final round; however, he made it that far on an older two-valve engine after his four-valve primary had to be replaced earlier in the event.
TheFourthTurn.com’s Brandon Zumbach was on-site covering all of the action. Below are photos that he captured throughout the Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.
