STORY/PHOTOS: 2021 CARS Tour Black’s Tire & Auto Service 125 At Dillon Motor Speedway
by Hunter Thomas March 7, 2021 0 commentsDILLON, S.C. – Justin Johnson edged Layne Riggs to the finish line at Dillon Motor Speedway on Saturday to claim his first-career CARS Tour Late Model Stock win.
Riggs had been dominate throughout most of the race, battling NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver, Timothy Peters. Johnson kept up with Riggs and Peters and in the final laps of the 125-lap race, he made his charge for the lead.
Craig Moore pounded the Turn 1 wall to bring out the only caution of the race on lap 92, and the restart gave Johnson an opportunity to capitalize. He took over the lead on lap 106, but Riggs battled back to regain the top spot. On the final lap, Johnson made the race-winning pass on Riggs in Turn 4, and with the checkered flag in the air, the two drivers were side-by-side as they crossed the finish line. Johnson beat Riggs by about a half car length.
Sam Butler made an impressive late-race charge to finish third. Jared Fryar finished fourth, and Peters who slid up the track on the final restart completed the top-five. Sam Yarbrough, Mike Looney, Bobby McCarty, Deac McCaskill and Mason Diaz rounded out the top-10.
The CARS Tour will be back in action on Saturday, March 20 as the series will visit Hickory Motor Speedway for the MTP Tire 250 presented by Cloer Construction. The Super Late Models will run 100 laps, and the Late Model Stocks will run 150 laps. The green flag will fly at 7 p.m. ET.
