CONCORD, N.C.– Joey Logano’s win in Sunday’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway will not count towards the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs due his Team Penske No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford failing post-race teardown.

The car was torn down at the NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, North Carolina, and on Thursday, NASCAR issued an L1-level penalty because of an issue with the rear suspension. NASCAR cited Section 20.14.2 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Rule Book.

The No. 22 team’s encumbered win is the first for a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team since the policy was put into place during the 2016 season.

The encumbered win strips the team of their Playoff points and the use of their win towards making the Playoffs. Crew chief of the No. 22 team, Todd Gordon, was assessed a $50,000 fine and will be suspended for two races. Logano was docked 25 driver points, and Team Penske was docked 25 owner points. Team Penske won’t appeal the assessed penalties.
