MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – WMBF News and TheFourthTurn.com will partner in 2017 to bring stock car race fans the latest, in-depth NASCAR news and feature content throughout the season.

The unique partnership between the two South Carolina news outlets will formally get underway during the week of the 2nd annual Icebreaker, a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event held at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Friday and Saturday, February 10-11. With NBC being a broadcast partner of NASCAR, it only makes sense for the two news outlets to share content during the upcoming race season. WMBF News is Raycom Media’s Myrtle Beach NBC affiliate, and TheFourthTurn.com is a daily stock car racing news source that’s based in Florence, South Carolina.

“The chance to partner with TheFourthTurn.com is something that really excites me for the upcoming NASCAR season,” said WMBF News Sports Director, Joe Murano. “Hunter Thomas (Managing Editor, TheFourthTurn.com) and his team, combined with us at WMBF will help provide some of the most detailed coverage of racing from both a local and national angle for 2017.”

TheFourthTurn.com will provide the WMBF News sports team with the latest news in NASCAR and the local racing community. The website is the leading source of stock car racing news in Eastern South Carolina, and it was founded in 2012 by Florence County Sheriff’s Office’s Christopher Neal and NASCAR journalist, Hunter Thomas. For the past two years, Thomas has served as a guest analyst on WMBF News’ Darlington Race Day Live that’s broadcast during the Bojangles’ Southern 500 weekend at Darlington Raceway.

“All of us at TheFourthTurn.com are really excited to partner with WMBF News in 2017,” said Thomas. “We’re both based in Eastern South Carolina, so combining efforts will only strengthen our coverage. WMBF News’ staff has incredible talent and expertise, and TheFourthTurn.com’s team is on the road nearly every weekend during the season covering NASCAR, ARCA and short track events. With our combined efforts, race fans particularly in South Carolina will get a comprehensive look into the sport that they are so passionate about.”

In 2017, WMBF News’ First Alert Weather Team will be the exclusive, expert source of weather updates for TheFourthTurn.com. The First Alert Weather Team will provide online forecasts and social media content for TheFourthTurn.com in an effort to reach out to race fans in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee areas. The primary focus will be content centered towards weather impacting events at Darlington Raceway, Dillon Motor Speedway, Florence Motor Speedway and Myrtle Beach Speedway.

“The marriage of weather and racing is an important one, and one that we’re thrilled to be a part of,” said WMBF News Chief Meteorologist, Jamie Arnold.

Last year, Hurricane Hermine impacted the schedule for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 weekend at Darlington Raceway, and Hurricane Matthew put a damper on Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Bank of American 500 weekend in October. Already this season, Winter Storm Helena forced Dillon Motor Speedway to reschedule its 7th annual New Year’s BASH. As the year progresses, severe weather will likely make its way through the Carolinas, and now with this partnership, race fans all around the country will have a better idea on how area racetracks will be impacted.
