by Hunter Thomas August 23, 2026 0 commentsWASHINGTON – The stars of the International Race of Champions (IROC) presented by Chevrolet went head-to-head on the streets of Washington, D.C. on Saturday ahead of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon swept both 10-lap races on Saturday. In the first race, he outran elite open-wheel driver Helio Castroneves for the victory. He passed by the four-time Indy 500 winner with just four laps to go.
Since Gordon won the first race, he had to start from the rear in the second 10-lap feature. Gordon climbed his way through the field and secured the lead away from Tony Kanaan at the halfway mark. In the end, Gordon held off 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kurt Busch to win the prestigious event. The two NASCAR Hall of Famers battled it out on the final lap and put on an incredible show for the fans.
The stars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES will take to the streets for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix on Sunday with pre-race kicking off live on FOX at 11:30 a.m. ET and the race getting underway at 1:10 p.m. ET.
