CONCORD, N.C. – William Byron couldn’t be stopped on Saturday as he came from the back to win the BetMGM 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in NASCAR Overtime.

Byron swept all stages; however, the road to victory wasn’t easy for the driver of the Hendrick Motorsports No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet. On Lap 94, Byron was caught speeding on pit road, and he had to battle his way back to the front to compete for the win.

Coming to get the white flag, Byron passed Allgaier on the high side out of Turn 4 to capture the lead. Allgaier gave it all he had and nearly crashed. Byron held on to win his fifth series victory.

“Just had a lot of green flag running and then couldn’t really get back to the front, but man, it feels awesome to win,” Byron said. “It’s my home track. It feels really good…it’s fun to be back in Victory Lane. I feel like I haven’t won in a while.”

After Allgaier’s wiggle, Connor Zilisch passed by to finish second. Nick Sanchez finished third, followed by Allgaier, Dean Thompson, Josh Williams, Austin Hill, Ryan Ellis, Christian Eckes and Sheldon Creed.

There were 10 lead changes among five drivers. Allgaier led a race high of 103 laps, so a fourth-place finish was a little disappointing but a huge step up from 35th after crashing at Texas Motor Speedway during the last race.

The caution flag flew on 11 occasions for 53 laps.

Allgaier continues to the lead the standings by 71 points over Austin Hill.

Up next on the schedule for the NASCAR Xfinity Series is the Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, May 31. Live coverage will broadcast on the CW at 7:30 p.m. ET.
