Layne Riggs Completes Charlotte Sweep For Seventh Win Of 2026
by Hunter Thomas October 9, 2026 0 commentsCONCORD, NC – Layne Riggs bested Kaden Honeycutt in the Ecosave 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night to secure his seventh victory of the season.
Riggs won at Charlotte Motor Speedway back in May, and on Friday, he completed the sweep after a thrilling duel with Honeycutt. Riggs chased Honeycutt down, and the two drivers fought hard until Honeycutt hit the wall exiting Turn 4, allowing Riggs to pass by with only seven laps to go.
“It was a great race tonight,” Riggs said. “Front Row Motorsports gave me a great truck. We’ve been working a lot at the Ford Racing simulator to get better for this race. We kind of fine tuned our setup that we had here in the Spring, and brought the same truck back. I feel like the bumps and characteristics of this track make it really, really difficult to hit it just right. Obviously, we still got to do some better work on pit road today, we lost spots every single time. But the truck was good enough, and I was confident enough behind the wheel that I was able to drive it back up to the front.”
Not only did Riggs top Honeycutt, but he also cut The Chase deficit down to a mere 17 points; however, Riggs knows that he still has a ways to go and anything can happen in the final four races of the season.
“Yeah, I mean, I could have today at Phoenix, or, you know, or we could finish fifth at Phoenix, and who knows what’s going to happen at Talladega? It’s tightened back up right here. It’s going to be a great battle to the end.”
Christian Eckes took advantage of Honeycutt’s mishap and secure the runner-up position. Honeycutt held on to finish third, and although he lost ground in the standings, he was also amped up following the battle for the win.
“I thought it was awesome too,” Honeycutt said. “When we went down to (turn) one, I was trying to decide bottom or top and I was trying to defend it. I don’t know how the heck I saved that. It was pretty wild. Seeing the replay, I really wish – I shouldn’t have been air blocking him as much as I did. Just took away what I was trying to do and focused on him too much, and should have just ran my own race.”
Bayley Currey finished an impressive fourth, and Chandler Smith rounded out the top-five. Daniel Hemric finished sixth, followed by Landen Lewis, Andres Perez De Lara, Tyler Ankrum and Justin Haley.
Riggs won Stage 1, and Honeycutt won Stage 2.
There were seven lead changes among three drivers. Honeycutt led a race high of 85 laps.
There were five cautions for 28 laps. Only one caution was for a multi-truck accident, and it occurred on Lap 119, when eight trucks crashed entering Turn 3.
Following the Ecosave 200, Honeycutt and Riggs are currently the only two drivers battling for the points lead. Smith is third, 77 points back, which is more than a race’s worth of points behind.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will now head west to Phoenix Raceway on Friday, Oct. 16. Live coverage of The Chase race will broadcast on FS1 at 7:30 p.m. ET
