Sheldon Creed Opens The Chase With A Win In The Fleetio 200 At Darlington Raceway

DARLINGTON, SC – Sheldon Creed opened The Chase with a win in the Fleetio 200 at Darlington Raceway.

On Saturday night in Darlington, Creed, the driver of the Haas Factory Team No. 00 Ollie’s Chevrolet finally earned a coveted win at the track, Too Tough To Tame that has always eluded him throughout his career. Creed took command of the race with 53 laps to go, and he never looked back as he went on to earn his second-career victory in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.

“This is everything to me,” Creed said. “I’ve been so close here so many times. Yea, if I could pick a place on the schedule to get a win, this is it. So, to finally get that, and to be honest, I wasn’t real happy with the car the first run, and we worked on it all night and JT (crew chief Jonathan Toney) and the boys gave me kind of what I needed there at the end, and I was able to get away.”

Corey Day finished runner-up in the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet; however, it was a rough road to the finish. On Lap 69, Day and William Sawalich got together on the backstretch. The two drivers were battling hard, when contact sent Sawalich into the outside wall. Despite the damage, Day rebounded for his first top-five since May.

“Yea, I think overall, you just have to stay locked in, right,” Day said. “You know, that stuff happens early in these races. You can’t just let it get into your head and make it to where you can’t have a good rest of your race.”

Chase competitors Brent Crews, Sammy Smith and Austin Hill completed the top-five. Rounding out the top-10 was Anthony Alfredo, Taylor Gray, Sam Mayer, Jeremy Clements and Brandon Jones.

Justin Allgaier won Stage 1, and Alfredo won Stage 2.

There were seven lead changes among seven drivers. Allgaier led a race high of 60 laps.

The caution came out on seven occasions for 38 laps.

Allgaier, who finished 17^th after hitting the wall late in the race, continues to lead The Chase standings by seven points over Creed.

The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series will visit World Wide Technology Raceway on Saturday, Sept. 12. Live coverage will broadcast on the CW Network at 7:30 p.m. ET.
