MADISON, Ill. – It came down to the battle of Burton’s at World Wide Technology Raceway on Saturday night for one of the final NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff spots.

Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport’s Jeb Burton went against his cousin, AM Racing’s Harrison Burton, and battled it out for the final Playoff spot until Jeb’s Playoff chances went up in flames, literally. With 51 laps to go in Saturday’s Nu Way 200 Sauced by Blues Hog, Burton had a tire go down, and he limped the No. 27 Onder Law Chevrolet Camaro down pit road on fire to the attention of the safety team. He got out of the car and hopped over the wall, ending his evening and ultimately his Playoff chances.

After making the Playoffs in 2023, Burton has missed the Playoffs in two straight seasons. A race that will haunt the No. 27 team will be Talladega back in the spring, where Burton came up mere inches of victory over Austin Hill. Leading seven laps, it was a race in which Burton truly showed emotion because, in the end, it was the closest his team got to punching to their ticket to the postseason.

To be in contention for the Playoff spot, it’s a major deal for Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport and Burton. The organization has made small gains but noted to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass at the infield care center that the teams have made gains but have about made as many as they possibly can.

“I feel like we’ve done everything we can do until we have a technical alliance or have information coming from somewhere,” said Burton. “My guys work very hard, but we race against a lot of money and support. We’re working to improve our cars, and we’ve come a long way in three years, and we just have to keep improving.”

In his 12th NASCAR Xfinity Series season, Burton currently sits 13th in points. He’s in the running for a third, top-15 finish in points. With six top-10 finishes, he currently has the same number of top-10s as he had in 2019, 2020 and 2023. If Burton earns another top-10 finish this season, he will earn the second-most of his career. There is still a lot to race for, and with Talladega’s second race rolling closer and closer, there’s a chance that they could play the Playoff spoiler.
