NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. – Corey Heim dominated Saturday’s Window World 250 at North Wilkesboro Speedway, but on the final lap, he spun, and Front Row Motorsports’ Chandler Smith held off teammate Layne Riggs to secure his seventh series victory.

In NASCAR Overtime, Heim took control early, but as the field took the white flag, Riggs was alongside side of him heading into Turn 1 for the final time. Riggs slid up the track and pinned Heim on the high side. Heim spun exiting Turn 2, and simultaneously, Smith made his way around both drivers to secure the lead and the victory.

“We fought and clawed today,” Smith said. “We had to start in the back, and I feel like this place, tires kind of matter, but they also kind of didn’t. First, come from the back to mid-pack twice, says a lot of how good this Ford F-150 was today. I didn’t think we were as good as the 11 (Heim). Obviously, we had a tire advantage on him there, and he was able to still able to start checking back out, then we got to him, nudged him out of the way and the caution came out. Props to those guys, they had a really fast truck today.”

Following the race, Heim searched pit road for Riggs. When he found him, he said a few words and then walked away. The two drivers have been hardnosed competitors since they began racing each other in the Late Model division.

“Just scum racing on his part,” Heim said. “He did it to me earlier in the race, and didn’t learn his lesson. I’ve raced him so clean throughout my years to continue to get used up by him. He tried to do it to the 7 (Carson Hocevar) last week, and he comes back and does the same thing. I’ve got no words to be honest with you.”

Tyler Ankrum finished third, followed by Daniel Hemric, Grant Enfinger, Ty Majeski, Giovanni Ruggiero, NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Busch and Sammy Smith.

Ruggiero won Stage 1, and Enfinger won Stage 2,

There were seven lead changes among four drivers. Heim led a race high of 162 laps.

The caution came out six times for a total of 42 laps.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will visit Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, May 23, for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.
