
RECAP/PHOTOS: 2024 NHRA Carolina Nationals At zMAX Dragway
by Hunter Thomas September 25, 2024 0 commentsCONCORD, N.C. – zMAX Dragway hosted the second of six races in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Antron Brown, Austin Prock, Dallas Glenn and Matt Smith captured victories in the 16th running of the Carolina Nationals.
In Top Fuel, Brown entered the weekend coming off a win in the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, and on Sunday, he outran Doug Foley with a run of 3.848 seconds at 319.90 mph. Brown also took over the points lead as well following the Carolina Nationals. En route to his fifth win of the season, Brown defeated Steve Torrence, Billy Torrence and defending champion Doug Kalitta. With the win, Brown now surpasses Larry Dixon for the second on the all-time Top Fuel wins list.
Prock went on to win his third straight Funny Car race. In the final round on Sunday, Prock beat No. 1 qualifier, Matt Hagan, for his seventh victory of the season. Prock’s race-winning run as was 3.924 seconds at 326.48 mph. Prock reached the final round by outrunning Alexis DeJoria, Ron Capps and his own John Force Racing teammate, Jack Beckman. With his 11th win on the season, Prock continues to lead the Championship standings.
Glenn beat Aaron Stanfield in the Pro Stock final.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle final, Smith beat Richard Gadson.
The NHRA Midwest Nationals, which is the third round of the NHRA Countdown to the Championship, will take place at World Wide Technology Raceway, Oct. 9 -13.
