Advance Auto Parts, City Of Danville Celebrate “Peyton Sellers Day”
by Press Release March 18, 2022 0 commentsRALEIGH, N.C. – Advance Auto Parts (NYSE: AAP), a leading automotive aftermarket parts retailer and entitlement sponsor of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series (NAAPWS), and the City of Danville, Va. celebrated Peyton Sellers Day on Thursday, March 17, at the Advance store in Danville, located on 1309 South Boston Highway.
At the event, Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones formally issued the proclamation to Sellers in recognition of his NAAPWS national championship in 2021. The title was Sellers’ second in the Weekly Series (2005), with his championship bolstered by 21 wins in 38 total starts. Along with the national championship, Sellers secured track titles in the late model divisions at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Va., and at Dominion Raceway in Woodford, Va.
“For years, Peyton has demonstrated his outstanding racing talent on NASCAR’s home tracks and at a national level,” said Jason McDonell, Advance’s executive vice president of merchandising, marketing and E-commerce. “We admire his driving skills and focus on family, as well as the passion he has for his community. Peyton is a great ambassador for short track racing, and we’re proud to call him our Weekly Series champion.”
Sellers and his brother H.C. operate Danville-based Sellers Racing. In addition to Peyton’s No. 26 car, the team fields race cars for drivers who compete on Virginia-area short tracks in the NAAPWS. The Sellers family also operates Sellers Bros., Inc., a Danville-based construction company started by Peyton’s grandfather.
“Competing on a national stage while calling Danville home is very special for our family and race team,” said Sellers. “On entire family is very appreciative and humbled by the opportunity to be recognized by Mayor Jones, the City of Danville and Advance. We are honored to represent Danville at the race track each weekend, and we thank Advance for their involvement and support of the Weekly Series.”
“As many race fans know, Peyton is a Danville native, and we are so blessed that Peyton and his family continue to make Danville their home,” Jones said. “We are excited about everything that Peyton and his family add to our community. So, it is only fitting that we take this opportunity to extend special recognition to Peyton for his accomplishments and for representing our community on a national stage. On behalf of the City Council and all citizens of Danville, I wish Peyton and Sellers Racing continued success.”
In 2022, the 38-year-old Sellers will set his sights toward a third NAAPWS national championship while also racing for the track championship at South Boston Speedway. His season will kick off on Saturday, March 19, at South Boston Speedway, with live coverage on FloRacing.
“We really appreciate the support both Advance Auto Parts and the City of Danville put behind Peyton Sellers Day as a way to honor our NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series national champion,” said Brandon Igdalsky, NASCAR managing director of touring and weekly series. “Peyton represents NASCAR and short track racing with excellence, and we are so proud he is being recognized for his hard work and talent. Additionally, we can’t wait to watch him start his defense of his title this weekend as the season begins at South Boston.”
