DARLINGTON, S.C. – On Tuesday at Darlington Raceway, Richard Petty Motorsports unveiled the Adam Petty throwback scheme that Darrell “Bubba” Wallace will sport on his No. 43 Chevrolet during the 2019 Bojangles’ Southern 500.

Adam, who passed away following a crash at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2000, is a fourth generation Petty. Both, Richard and Kyle Petty were in attendance for the unveiling.

The scheme that Wallace will compete with on Labor Day weekend is a tribute to the design that Adam featured on his car when he won the 1998 ARCA Menards Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Adam had 46 NASCAR national series starts between 1998 and 2000. Three of the starts were at Darlington in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He finished 24th in the spring of 1999 and 15th in the summer. He also finished 16th in the spring of 2000. Adam’s best NASCAR national series finish was a fourth-place effort in a NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Auto Club Speedway in May of 1999.

Wallace currently sits 27th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings. The 25-year-old has one series start at Darlington Raceway. He finished 26th in last year’s Bojangles’ Southern 500. He also has a 14th (2015) and 17th (2016) place effort in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the track, Too Tough To Tame.

Following the throwback scheme unveiling, Wallace visited the Boys and Girls Club of the Pee Dee in nearby Florence, S.C.

The Bojangles’ Southern 500 will be held at Darlington Raceway on Sunday, September 1. Live coverage of the 70th running of the historic event will broadcast the NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) and the Motor Racing Network (MRN) at 6 p.m. ET.
