Josh Berry Wins At Ace Speedway; Captures His First CARS Tour Victory of 2019by Hunter Thomas May 5, 2019 0 comments
On Friday night, the CARS Tour made its second trip to Ace Speedway since the tour was revamped.
Last year, Bobby McCarty put a clinic on leading every lap. This year, was a bit of a different story. Statesville native Ryan Millington laid down a lap in qualifying that no one could beat. The only problem is, Millington had some very heavy hitters like Josh Berry, Deac McCaskill, and McCarty that started right behind him.
Millington led the field to the green and led the early portion of the race. Unfortunately for Millington and his No. 15 team, the race couldn’t seem to stay green. This played into McCarty’s hands as it seemed as though his car had very good short-run speed. McCarty led most of the race and all of the upcoming green flag run.
The first 40 laps had a handful of cautions that led to short days for drivers like Justin Carroll, Jason York, and a few others. Once the field got past lap 50, there was finally a long green flag run. During this run, Josh Berry had charged his way from the back (twice) to take the second position from McCaskill. Berry had just started working over McCarty when the competition caution had come out on lap 90.
After the field took the green on lap 90, Berry made very quick work of McCarty and set sail. The No. 22 car of McCarty had dropped back to the bottom of the top-five later in the race and was racing Millington. McCarty and Millington traded shots but finally, Ryan cleared McCarty and he set his sights on McCaskill. Throughout this short stint, Berry had really stretched his lead out to about a straightaway over McCaskill. With about 15 to go, Millington passed McCaskill and couldn’t quite catch up to Berry but ended up finishing second.
This was Josh Berry’s first CARS Tour win this year. With the win, Berry extended his points lead going into the next event which will be at Motor Mile Speedway. Ryan Millington finished second, Deac McCaskill third, Bobby McCarty fourth and JR Motorsports teammate Adam Lemke finished fifth.
Up next for the CARS Tour is the Heritage Truck Center 250 at Motor Mile Speedway on Saturday, May 18.
