Kaden Honeycutt Dominates At Richmond Raceway For Second Truck Series Win

RICHMOND, Va. – Kaden Honeycutt dominated Saturday’s Black’s Tire 250 presented by BTS Rewards and held off his TRICON Garage teammate Corey Heim to win at Richmond Raceway.

Honeycutt swept the stages and led all but 25 laps in his No. 11 Safelite Toyota. The race went 29 laps green to the finish and as the laps ticked away, Heim was closing in on Honeycutt; however, lapped traffic and a clutch performance sealed the deal for Honeycutt as he went on to win his second race of the season.

“Thank you,” Honeycutt said. “All hats off to these guys – Scott Zipadelli (crew chief), David (Gilliland, partner, TRICON Garage), my entire team. We were down in the dumps after the last couple of weeks, and we were wondering what we have going on. Just great turnaround today. It was a great race today. Hate we had the caution at the midpoint of the cycle, but man thanks Safelite, TRICON Garage, TOYOTA RACING – everyone for this opportunity. I can’t thank them enough for it.” 

Heim started the race in 16^th in the No. 5 Alpha Craft Toyota, but by Stage 2, he was fighting inside the top-10. As the race progressed Heim’s truck got faster, and he was able to challenge for the win.

“I thought it was going to be a long day after stage one. I climbed a couple of spots from 16th – where I qualified – and ended up 12th. We were slowly climbing up through the second stage and kind of thought that was going to be our day – riding along in the teens, but we made really good adjustments and kind of climbed forward. Never like finishing second by any means, but a better day than I thought it was going to be after practice and qualifying and stage one.”

Christian Eckes finished third, and polesitter Shane van Gisbergen finished fourth. Rounding out the top-five was Grant Enfinger. Completing the top-10 was Jake Garcia, Chandler Smith, Tristan McKee, Gio Ruggiero and Daniel Hemric.

There were six lead changes among four drivers. Honeycutt led a race high of 225 laps.

The caution only came out once for an accident, and it was a big one as far as The Chase is concerned. Stewart Friesen, who entered the race eight points above the cutline, crashed hard in Turn 1 after a tire blew. Friesen finished last in 36^th.

With one Regular Season race to go, the drivers locked in to The Chase are Layne Riggs, Honeycutt, Smith, Eckes, Ruggiero and Ty Majeski.

Tyler Ankrum is now on the bubble with Friesen trailing by 20 points as he sits 11^th in the standings. Garcia is 21 points back, and Brenden Queen is 47 points back.

The final race of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Regular Season will take place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 22. The Team EJP 175 will broadcast live at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
