TIMMONSVILLE, SC – The RAM: Race for the Seat reality show concluded with its final episode Friday, after eight total intriguing episodes. The Kelley twins, who regularly compete at Florence Motor Speedway, were popular figures throughout the show’s duration.
Casey and Cody Kelley were the lone pair of twins featured among the show’s 15 participants. Each featured driver wanted to prove they belonged and further put their names in conversations for future NASCAR national series opportunities.
The Kelley brothers enjoyed competing in the form of competition that few get to participate in, especially on national television.
“It was an unbelievable experience, we had so much fun.” Cody Kelley said. “It was just a blessing to be a part of; it was so much fun, it was a great experience.”
His brother shared the same opinion and acknowledged that being chosen was a fortune in itself, along with competing against the other drivers.
“We felt very fortunate just to be a part of it,” Casey Kelley said. “We wanted to win it, you know, and we tried our best, but congrats to Mini (Tyrell). He did a heck of a job. So like Landon (Huffman) said before, we’re really proud to be a part of it, and other than me, there was 14 other great race car drivers so you know just very proud to be a part of it.”
Part of the show’s premise included direct competition between several drivers across each race and challenge. Included were several instances where the Kelley twins faced off against one another, creating a brotherly contest.
“It was different for sure,” Cody Kelley said. “I mean usually on the track here at Florence (Motor Speedway), we race together like give and take for each other, but there was so much on the line. There were only three other drivers besides us. There was so much on the line, it was different for sure. It was really competitive, and I really wanted to beat him (Casey). I’m sure he wanted to beat me.”
Casey Kelley said, “There was so much on the line it was a life-changing experience for us. Racing against Cody, I pull for Cody even when I’m behind him or racing with him I’m pulling for him, but in that moment you gotta compete against him and try and win that seat.”
Anytime there’s a competition, there is an amount of pressure to go along with it, especially considering the diversity in the challenges the twins competed in.
So was the pressure any different for the twins given the unique competitive environment?
“Each competition we didn’t have much time to get comfortable,” Casey Kelley said. “With the different cars or the different racetracks we’ve never been to. You had to get up to speed very quick, like you didn’t have two days of practicing like we have here on this weekend at this race; you had five minutes or whatever and you just had to go. You had no choice and just had to give it your best shot.”
While the Kelley brothers didn’t win the challenge, the motorsports industry is now more familiar with their names and story. You can find the Kelley brothers on any given weekend competing in an array of divisions at their home track, Florence Motor Speedway in Timmonsville, SC.
