Daniel Hemric Flips Over First NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Win At Martinsville
by Hunter Thomas March 29, 2025 0 commentsRIDGEWAY, Va. – Daniel Hemric captured his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win on Friday after overtaking Tyler Ankrum late in the Boys and Girls Club of the Blue Ridge 200.
After an intense side-by-side battle, Hemric finally cleared Ankrum out of Turn 4 with four laps to go. The driver of the McAnally-Hilgemann Racing No. 19 Gates Hydraulics Chevrolet sailed off to capture his first-ever series victory in 55 starts.
“We found a way there at the end,” Hemric said. “I won the race. Tyler, obviously we have a long season ahead, I wanted to race him as clean as I could. I’ve walked out of here twice thinking there’s a missing spot in my dining room for a clock, so it’s cool to finally get one here to have.”
Filled with emotion of his first series win, Hemric cut a backflip off the roof his race truck. Not only is Hemric taking home a famous grandfather clock, but his team won the $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge bonus.
“I said, I want to come back here – not come back here to get back anywhere, just come back here to win, to stay humble,” Hemric said. “Just enjoy this journey, man. I’m just so thankful for the path I’ve been on.”
Ankrum held on to finish second to his teammate. The runner-up finish marked Ankrum’s third top-five finish this season. When asked if he could have done anything different, Ankrum noted he could have launched more quickly on the final restart with less than 10 laps to go.
“Had a better restart and gotten away faster,” Ankrum said. “Congratulations to Daniel,” Ankrum said. “Can’t think of a better guy, nicer guy to win. I mean yea, he gave me the bumper, but I mean, you’re going to do that at Martinsville, so honestly would have much rather had him a teammate giving me a bumper for the win so we could just get a win for MHR.”
Jake Garcia, Chandler Smith and Ben Rhodes rounded out the top-five. Polesitter Corey Heim suffered a flat tire on Lap 168, but he battled back for a sixth-place finish. Completing the top-10 was Andres Perez De Lara, Rajah Caruth who was involved in two crashes, Stewart Friesen and Lawless Alan.
Heim swept Stages 1 and 2.
There were five lead changes among five drivers. Heim led a race high of 149 laps.
The caution flew on 10 occasions for 69 laps. One of the most notable crashes of the night occurred on Lap 188, when Ty Majeski slid up into Kaden Honeycutt while battling for the lead in Turn 1. Majeski spun, and Honeycutt backed into the outside wall hard.
Heim leads the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings by 20 points over Majeski.
Up next on the schedule is the Weather Guard Truck Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday, April 11. Live coverage will broadcast on FS1 at 7:30 p.m.
