Corey Heim Outduels Teammate Kaden Honeycutt for Win At Rockingham Speedway
by Hunter Thomas April 3, 2026 0 commentsROCKINGHAM, NC – Corey Heim held off TRICON Garage teammate, Kaden Honeycutt to win Friday’s Black’s Tire 200 at Rockingham Speedway.
Heim, who is only competing in his third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race of the season absolutely dominated the day, sweeping all three stages and leading a race high of 178 of 200 laps. That being said, he had to drag race Honeycutt down the backstretch on the final lap, and while they were battling for the win, they came up on teammate Taylor Gray who wasn’t on the lead lap. Heim chose the bottom lane going into Turn 3, and Honeycutt was hindered by Gray. Heim prevailed for his second win of the 2025 season.
“I felt like I didn’t push it any harder than any previous run or do any more damage to the right front, but it was like all of a sudden with four to go, my truck started just – I had to turn more right down the straightaway to keep it straight,” Heim said. “My wheel was clocked at like 20 degrees to the right and it was chattering really bad in the corners, and I was like oh boy here we go, we’re going to lose this one in the worst way possible, but it hung in there and I just had to use a couple of laps trucks to hold him off. Respect Kaden for racing me clean. I did what I had to do there at the end, but first win for Robinhood.”
With the win, Heim secured the $150K Triple Truck Challenge after beating Honeycutt by 0.090 seconds.
“Yeah, it means a lot,” Heim said. “I don’t really think about it in the truck but being able to reflect on it – it would be cool to be the first person to sweep all three if we are able to do it. There is a lot of motivation for these guys in the 1 camp with Celsius as our primary next week, so super excited about that. Proud to get it done with Robinhood today, and get their first win.”
Honeycutt finished second in the No. 11 Safelite Toyota, earning his third top-five finish of the season. On Friday, he finished third in both, Stages 1 and 2. Honeycutt had gotten alongside of Heim when they took the white flag, but in the end, he had nowhere to go and was stuck behind Gray.
“I was hoping everyone would have moved when we started racing each other, but it is part of it – it is part of racing and you have to navigate it,” Honeycutt said. “He did an excellent job there at that last corner. I tried to shove Tanner as far as I can and hoped that he would have gone to the bottom or something like that, but I don’t really know what I could have done differently other than run me and him down in the marbles and all that. I didn’t want to do that, but I wanted to make sure that me or Corey won the race, and I obviously wanted to win it, but it was good that our TRICON organization could do that. Our team has been really, really good this year – across all teams. I think this shows that.
Rounding out the top-five was Layne Riggs, Stewart Friesen and Grant Enfinger. Tyler Ankrum finished sixth, followed by Tyler Ankrum, Corey LaJoie, Ty Majeski, Jake Garcia and Cole Butcher.
Chandler Smith, who originally finished third, was disqualified after his truck failed post-race inspection for rear heights. Smith entered the day as the point leader.
There were six lead changes among four drivers. TRICON Garage led all but four laps in the race.
The caution flew on four occasions for 28 laps. Only two cautions were for accidents.
The first caution for an issue on the track came on Lap 61, when Adam Andretti crashed on the backstretch
The final caution of the day came out on Lap 166, when Michael Chrstiopher Jr. got sideways out of Turn 2 after contact with Daniel Hemric. The caution came out during green flag pit stops, which added more drama to the race.
Chandler Smith leads the standings by 15 points over Heim, who isn’t running for a Championship.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will visit Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday, April 10 for the Tennessee Army National Guard 250. Live coverage will broadcast on FS1 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
