Porsche Penske Motorsport Dominates For One-Two Finish In 12 Hours Of Sebring

SEBRING, Fla. – Porsche Penske Motorsport backed its Rolex 24 win up with a victory in the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Not only did the Porsche 963s win, but they dominated and had to battle each other for the victory on Saturday. Overall, the Porsche Penske Motorsport cars led all but 60 laps in the prestigious race.

Just under an hour to go in the 12-hour race, the No. 7 Porsche driven by Felipe Nasr got an advantage off pit road and then held hold off his teammate, Kevin Estre in the No. 6 Porsche for the victory. The win marked Nasr’s third victory in the 12 Hours of Sebring and the second in a row for the team. Nasr was joined by Julien Andlaur and Laurin Heinrich.

Finishing second was the Porsche Penske Motorsport No. 6 team with drivers Estre, Laurens Vanthoor and Matt Campbell. With the dominate performance by both teams, the organization is setting itself up for a strong run for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Cadillac Whelen’s No. 31 team finished third followed by,  Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agalanianian’s No. 60 team and BMW M Team WRT’s No. 24 team.

In LMP2, it was United Autosports with a one-two finish as well. The organization’s No. 2 car with drivers Phil Fayer, Hunter McElrea and M. Jenson topped the No. 22 car with Daniel Goldburg, Paul Di Resta and Rasmus Lindh. The win in the 12 Hours of Sebring was a first for both Frayer and McElrea.

Completing the podium in LMP2 was Tower Motorsports No. 8 car, piloted by Tristan Vautier, John Farano and Sebastian Alvarez.

ASTON MARTIN THOR Team’s No. 9 car won in GTP. The driver lineup included Ross Gunn, Roman De Angelis and Alex Riberas.

Manthey’s No. 1 911 team took victory in the GTD PRO with drivers Thomas Preining, Klaus Bachler and Ricardo Feller.

Up next on the schedule for IMSA GTP competitors will be the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 17-18. LMP2 competitors won’t be back in action until June 25-27, when the series visits Watkins Glen International.
