CONCORD, NC. – Shane van Gisbergen won his fifth consecutive NASCAR Cup Series road course race on Sunday after blistering the field in the closing laps of the Bank of America ROVAL 400 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL.

Gisbergen is now just one road course win away from tying four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon for most consecutive wins on a road course. Gordon has six, and come March 2026 at Circuit of the Americas, Gisbergen will have an opportunity to tie the NASCAR Hall of Famer. On Sunday at the ROVAL, Gisbergen ran up front all day in the Trackhouse Racing No. 88 WeatherTech Chevrolet and won by an incredible 15.160 seconds.

“I said that the other day, those two (Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell) were going to be the fastest guys,” van Gisbergen said. “When they drove away from me at the start of that stage, I thought it’s just like last year when I lost the lead. The 20 and 5 drove away into the sunset.

“Yeah, it was a cool feeling when I matched them at the end. As soon as I got the second set of tires on in that last stage I was, like, okay, there was something wrong in the last one. Just drove back to them, which was a pretty cool feeling as well.”

Kyle Larson drove the Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet to a second-place finish. Larson was in command late in the race, but van Gisbergen chased him down and pulled off the race-winning move with 12 laps to go. The effort marks Larson’s first top-five since the Brickyard 400 back in July.

“I’m happy with a second-place finish for this No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet team,” Larson said. “Shane van Gisbergen is just so good. It was a fun battle with Christopher, too. To start the final stage, we were trying to break up his (SVG) rhythm and race, and I thought it was playing out well. He was just so fast. I tried riding. I tried saving my tires, but I just can’t do it as well as he does. But overall, it was a great finish and momentum to head into the Round of Eight.”

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell finished third in the No. 20 DEWALT Toyota. Bell was fast all afternoon long; however, he just wasn’t able to overthrow Larson or Gisbergen for the top spot. Bell now has three top-three finished in the last four races.

“We had a hell of a race for second between me and my DEWALT Camry, (Chris) Buescher and Larson,” Bell said. It is that 88 car was what 30 seconds ahead of us. Congratulations to Shane and that Trackhouse team. They have set the bar, and we are all clearly having a hard time getting up to it.”

Rounding out the top-five was Buescher and Michael McDowell. Ryan Preece finished sixth, followed by Daniel Suarez, Chase Elliott, AJ Allmendinger and Tyler Reddick.

Van Gisbergen won Stage 1, and Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney won Stage 2.

There were 15 lead changes among six drivers. Van Gisbergen led a race high of 57 laps.

The Bank of America ROVAL 400 was an elimination race, and it all came down to the final yards. Ross Chastain was in position to advance to the Round of 8. All he needed to do was pass Denny Hamlin. In the final corner on the final lap, Chastain tangled with Hamlin and Joey Logano and others were able to pass by. Chastain was eliminated from the NASCAR Playoffs, joining Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick and Austin Cindric.
