Hendrick Motorsports Won’t Appeal Alex Bowman’s Disqualification From Charlotte ROVAL
by Hunter Thomas October 14, 2024 1 commentCONCORD, N.C. – Hendrick Motorsports won’t appeal the disqualification of Alex Bowman following the conclusion of Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
In post-race inspection, Bowman’s No. 48 Chevrolet didn’t meet the minimum weight requirement, and as a result, he was credited with a 38th-place finish and removed from the Round of 8 of the NASCAR Playoffs. Bowman had initially advanced after winning Stage 2 and finishing 18th; however, his car was below the 17-pound grievance NASCAR gives the teams.

On Monday, Hendrick Motorsports issued the statement below:
Hendrick Motorsports will not appeal the disqualification of the No. 48 car following Sunday’s race at the Charlotte ROVAL. NASCAR allows a clear margin to account for the difference in pre- and post-race weight. After a thorough review by our team and the sanctioning body, we simply did not give ourselves enough margin to meet the post-race requirement. Although unintentional, the infraction was avoidable. We are extremely disappointed to lose a playoff spot under these circumstances and apologize to our fans and partners.
With no appeal, the field of the Round of 8 is officially set: Kyle Larson (+33), Christopher Bell (+13), Tyler Reddick (+10), William Byron (+4), Ryan Blaney (-4), Denny Hamlin (-8), Chase Elliott (-9) and Joey Logano (-11).
The opening race of the round will get underway at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Live coverage of the South Point 400 will broadcast live on NBC at 2:30 p.m. ET.
