TALLADEGA, Ala. – The NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway has been postponed to Monday at 3 p.m. ET due to rain and lightning.

On Sunday, NASCAR had to issue a lightening warning just prior to the 3 p.m. start time, followed by a storm hitting the track. Track crews and officials attempted to dry the track with 18 Air Titans, eight jet dryers, two track vacs and an Elgin sweeper, but a second storm hit the 2.66-mile track, ending the drying efforts for the day.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin will bring the field down to the green flag on Monday afternoon. Hamlin enters the weekend coming off a victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Chase Elliott is the defending winner of the GEICO 500, and he will start in the 11th position.

Due to no practice or qualifying, a competition caution will be thrown at lap 25 of the 188-lap event.

The GEICO 500 will broadcast live on FOX and the Motor Racing Network (MRN).
