DARLINGTON, S.C. – In the spirit of giving back to the community, Darlington Raceway and The NASCAR Foundation teamed up for the third-annual “Operation Speedy Bear Brigade.” On December 4, track employees delivered The NASCAR Foundation’s Speedy Bears to children in the hospital at McLeod Health.

“Thanks to the NASCAR Foundation and their Speediatrics initiative, we were happy to visit McLeod Health and their Children’s Hospital in Florence, S.C. to spread some holiday cheer to those who needed it the most,” said Dennis Worden, Senior Director of Communications at Darlington Raceway. “We were very fortunate McLeod opened their doors to us and gave us the opportunity to brighten some children’s day by delivering Speedy Bears and visiting with their families.”

Darlington Raceway teamed up with track PA announcer and iHeart Media personality Dan Lockemy to distribute the bears. iHeart Media and its flagship station, WEGX Eagle 92.9 FM (Florence), are MRN broadcast affiliates and longtime partners of the track.

In addition to Darlington’s efforts at McLeod Health, Operation Speedy Bear Brigade took place in more than 30 other locations across the country, including participation from several NASCAR office and track locations.

“The Speedy Bear Brigade truly demonstrates the generosity of our sport,” The NASCAR Foundation Executive Director Nichole Krieger said. “This effort has continued to grow from year to year, without losing sight our ultimate goal to bring smiles to the faces of so many children who really need it.”

This effort is organized through The NASCAR Foundation’s Speediatrics Children’s Fund, which supports needs expressed by hospitals, specialty clinics, camps and others providing children’s medical and health care services.
