FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Tough summer heat and scattered thunderstorms would prompt most racetracks to punk out and cancel their programs.

Not Fayetteville Motor Speedway.

Despite those obstacles, racing went on as slated, and first-class track prep by Wayne Gray Jr. and Fred Maynor gave drivers in eight divisions great conditions for Round 2 of the “Friday Night Fights” series.

Willie Milliken of Roanoke Rapids continued the recent rampage that has seen him rise to No. 5 nationally in the American Dirt Late Model rankings in the Spec/Limited ranks. He outgunned Shaun Harrell and Matthew Bissette for his second consecutive Late Model win.

In Diet Mountain Dew Modified action, Daniel Parker led much of the way before spinning, and Christian Thomas rolled to the win over Shawn Martin and John Marshall. Parker wound up eighth.

Front-row starter Ryan Shabram also spun while leading, which allowed Eddie Daniels to roll to the win in Legends over Tim Neighbors and Tyler Kussman.

Ron Pope was en route to victory in Sportsman but broke on the final lap. Michael Freeman, who hadn’t raced in several weeks, took the win while Benji Thompson was second and Justin Patterson was third.

Brandon Carter made another trip to Victory Lane in Renegades, beating Rick Razillard and Daniel Johnson to the finish line.

Second-starting Eric Bentley was the winner in the SportModz special ahead of Josh Fields and Jerry Dove.

The Super Stock 4 honors went to Jason Horne. Polesitter Patrick Arch took second ahead of Eric Hill.

The Stingerz feature was won by “Joker Style Kyle,” Kyle Jenks. Junior Williams and Robert Pfouts finished second and third, respectively.

Fayetteville Motor Speedway returns to action Aug. 3 with a Mid-East Modified Tour main event for the GM 602-powered entries. There will also be twin features for the Legends competitor, as well as action in Late Model, Diet Mountain Dew Modified, Sportsman and Stingerz.
