Brett Moffitt Declared Winner In Iowa After Ross Chastain’s Truck Fails Post-Race Tech

NEWTON, Iowa – Ross Chastain dominated Sunday’s M&M’S® 200 presented by Casey’s General Store at Iowa Speedway, but his truck failed post-race technical inspection, and Brett Moffitt was credited with his first win of the season.

Chastain, led a race high of 141 laps in the 200-lap race and won all stages. He was looking to be just 14 points behind the top-20, where he needs to be before the NASCAR Playoffs begin; however, his race truck was too low in post-race tech inspection. Chastain was stripped of the win and the Triple Truck Challenge $50,000 bonus. Chastain will also only earn last-place points. The team can appeal NASCAR’s penalties.

Brett Moffitt inherited the win, which marks his first of the 2019 season. Moffitt hadn’t finished inside the top-five since Dover in early May. Moffitt now has five top-five finishes so far this season.

Ben Rhodes, Harrison Burton and Grant Enfinger completed the top-five. Stewart Friesen, Sheldon Creed, Matt Crafton and pole-sitter Chandler Smith rounded out the top-10.

There were only four cautions throughout the afternoon, and only two were for accidents on the track.

Drama occurred on lap 139, when tempers boiled over between Johnny Sauter and Austin Hill. While battling for position, Sauter moved Hill out of the way heading into Turn 1. Later, Hill got to the back of Sauter and spun him. Sauter slammed the outside wall, and while under caution, he plowed into Hill. NASCAR parked Sauter for the race.

Following the race, Hill said, “It’s hard to race with that guy. We were racing hard. Getting into Turn 1, he got into me a little bit, and I kind of returned the favor. I don’t race like that, so if you’re going to race me like that and try to take me out – I guess he was mad from Texas last week, I don’t know. I’m not going to put up with it.”

Enfinger leads Crafton in the series standings by 47 points.

The NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series will visit World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway on Saturday, June 22. The Gateway 200 presented by CK Power will broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and the Motor Racing Network (MRN) at 9 p.m. ET.
