Ross Chastain Wins In Kansas As Stewart Friesen Runs Out Of Fuel In Closing Laps

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Ross Chastain cruised to victory in the Digital Ally 250 at Kansas Speedway after Stewart Friesen ran out of fuel with three laps to go.

Friesen led a race high of 87 laps and was in position to capture his first-career NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series race, but with just three laps to go, he ran out of fuel and handed Niece Motorsports’ Chastain his first win in the series.

“This is what sports is all about,” said Chastain in Victory Lane. “Comebacks, man! We had the world by the tail last fall, and everything got taken away from us. We didn’t quit, though.”

Friesen won Stage 1 and 2 in the 167-lap race, but he finished a disappointing 15^th-place after running out of gas.

“Just a bunch of miscommunications with me a Trip (Bruce, crew chief), and it goes back – it just goes back to a couple of weeks,” Friesen said. “We’ll work on it, and get better. We had a fast hotrod.”

Ben Rhodes made up ground on the final restart with just 16 laps to go to finish second. Todd Gilliland finished third, followed by Austin Hill and Brandon Jones.

Rounding out the top-10 was pole-sitter Matt Crafton, Grant Enfinger, Brett Moffitt, Riley Herbst and Harrison Burton.

During the race, there six cautions for 29 laps. The only caution for a multi-truck accident came out on lap 140, when Enfinger and Moffitt collided while battling for second in Turn 2. Moffitt spun underneath Enfinger, who then made slight contact with the outside wall.

Even after their scare in the closing laps, Enfinger leads in the standings as Moffitt trails by 13 points.

The NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series will visit Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, May 17 for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200. The race will broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and the Motor Racing Network (MRN) at 8:30 p.m. ET.
