PELETIER, N.C. – Penalties have been levied by Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway to members of two race teams following an on-track altercation at the conclusion of the Legends feature in Saturday’s Clash at the Coast.

On the final lap of the race, Brian Sullivan and Emily Day ended up in an accident while battling for the win.  After the incident, and while the track was still hot, parties affiliated with both teams entered the racing surface and were involved in a confrontation.

As a result of the on-track confrontation, the following penalties have been issued:

No. 18 Team:

–      Caleb Day has been suspended for the next two (2) Carteret County Speedway races for disorderly conduct.  He is barred from entering the pits and from working as a member for any race team during these two races.  Caleb Day has also been fined $250 and placed on probation through December 31st.

–      Jesse Day has been placed on probation through December 31st for entering a hot track.

–      Emily Day has been placed on probation through December 31st for failure to control team.

No. 1 Team:

–      Brian Sullivan has been fined $250 and placed on probation through December 31st for disorderly conduct.

Carteret County Speedway has notified both teams of their penalties.

“It is unfortunate that we have to issue penalties, but we’re sending a message that we are not going to tolerate fighting or disorderly conduct,” track owner Bob Lowery said.  “We will also have a zero-tolerance policy about participants entering the track while it is deemed hot by our officials moving forward.  We have talked with both parties and they understand and accept responsibility for their actions.  Carteret County Speedway is family-friendly venue and we expect our competitors to act as role models for younger fans to look up to.”

Drivers Emily Day and Brian Sullivan will be eligible to compete in the Short Track Shootout at Carteret County Speedway on Saturday, May 11th.  The race will pay $2,500-to-win in the Legends division.
