Get Ready Alabama, Clemson Colors Rolling Into Talladega

Get Ready Alabama, Clemson Colors Rolling Into Talladega

As Yogi Berra said, “It’s like déjà-vu all over again”. Menards ARCA eries driver Ed Pompa will be returning to competition at Talladega Superspeedway on April 26. He will (again) be piloting a Clemson Tigers tribute car, in honor of the 2018 National Football Champions.

Flashback to 2017, when Ed raced a Clemson Tigers tribute car at both Daytona and Talladega, after Clemson won the 2016 National Football Championship. Pompa said, “My son is a 2012 Clemson graduate, so I decided to do a tribute car. In 2017, the Clemson car received amazing response from the fans. Alabama fans at Talladega weren’t quite as supportive, as would be expected, but we definitely got their attention! This January, when Clemson defeated Alabama to win the National Football Championship, I knew I had to do this again. No doubt about it. I texted Andy (Hillenburg) the day after the game and let him know my plan. Andy already had 3 drivers lined up for Daytona this year, so I decided to wait until Talladega to debut the ‘Clemson car’, and have tried to keep it under wraps until now, working out all the details.”

Pompa said, “Frontline Designs has done a phenomenal job with the design. When I contacted Rick from Frontline about doing a Clemson tribute car, he jumped at the opportunity. He’s a Clemson fan also. Rick’s first design was absolutely incredible. IMGCL, which handles collegiate licensing rights for Clemson, said due to licensing and copyright rules we couldn’t use it, so Rick went back to work and came up with the current design. IMGCL has granted me a licensing agreement to use the design, and Lionel has already contacted me about the possibility of doing die-casts.”

Pompa continued and said, “I would love to get Clemson fans, alumni, students, etc. involved in this project. The more Clemson supporters behind this, the better. I have proposed an idea to get the names of Clemson fans, etc., on the hood and trunk of the race car. If I can get enough people involved, after the July Pocono race, I will donate the hood and trunk to Clemson, so they can be auctioned off for the benefit of the Clemson Foundation. In 2017, I couldn’t believe the number of Clemson fans at Talladega.

The current plan is to race this Clemson tribute car at Talladega, then both Pocono races this year. I have to survive Talladega first, though.”

On Thursday morning, Andy Hillenburg’s Fast Track Racing will be unloading the ‘Green Renewable Inc – Double H Ranch – Clemson Tigers’ Chevrolet at Talladega Superspeedway.

“I have a new primary sponsor on board for Talladega”, Pompa said. “Green Renewable Inc, and their subsidiary, Finger Lakes Mulch and Soil, with their Beck’s Garden Perfect line of bagged products, join my regular returning sponsors, Milwaukee Crusher Co, Pompa Bros Inc, Burt Crane, Turn One Condos, T-Shirt Graphics, and Barb & Jay Biondi. They are helping support The Double H Ranch through racing sponsorships. A huge ‘thank you’ to these people for believing in the mission of the Double H Ranch. Special thanks to my wife, Nancy. This wouldn’t be possible without her support.”
