PELETIER, N.C. – Last minute preparations are ongoing and the excitement and anticipation of racing is in the air at Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway with just days remaining until Opening Day 2019 presented by Solid Rock Carriers, set for 2 p.m. on March 30th.

Seven divisions will be in action during the first race of the fourth season of racing at Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway.  The headline feature, a $5,000-to-win Limited Late Model race, has drawn interest from competitors all across North Carolina.  Additionally, Street Stocks, Mini-Stocks, U-CARs, Legends, Mini Cups and Champ Karts will also be in action.

Swansboro’s Brandon Clements, the reigning Late Model division champion and winningest driver in Carteret County Speedway history is set to go after spending the offseason refreshing his car as he looks to defend his turf from an invasion of outsiders.

“We really haven’t done much except freshen up and make sure the car is still 100 percent,” Clements said.  “As far as the package, we’re pretty much going to go with what we had last year.  I think we were pretty good.  We’re ready to go.  We were going to test on Wednesday but Mother Nature killed that.”

Clements is looking to defend his title against Swansboro’s Chris Burns, Wilmington’s T.J. Barron, Pelham’s Eric Winslow, and Reidsville’s Jason York – among others.

Rookie Aiden Hetu, son of Carolina Mini-Stock Challenge champion Kris Hetu, will be racing full-time in the Mini-Stock division at Carteret County in 2019.  Kris Hetu says their last-minute preparations consist of getting the car right and getting the Wilmington teenager some seat time before next week.

“Mainly we’ve just got to get him some seat time and get some confidence.  We ran some practice laps the other and found that the car was not handling, it was way off in the front end.  He was within a second of what I could run in the car.  Getting that right, and mainly his confidence and what the car is what it’s supposed to be before every race.”

The U-CAR division will see familiar faces as well as a handful of new drivers on March 30th, while the always entertaining Legends division is likely to see a boost in car counts all throughout the regular season in anticipation of the INEX Legends Asphalt Nationals, which will be held at Carteret from October 17th-October 19th.

The season-opening race will be the first daytime race in the track’s history.  Pit gates will open at 8am, practice will begin at 10am, qualifying will commence at 12:30pm.  The grandstands will open at 12pm, the Fan Fest meet-and-greet and autograph session will start at 1:15pm and the 2019 season will go green at 2:15pm.
