On Friday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. tweeted that he will compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 at Darlington Raceway on Saturday, August 31.

Earnhardt Jr. stepped away from full-time competition in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series following the 2017 season; however, he didn’t step away from racing. Last year, Earnhardt started second in JR Motorsports’ No. 88 Chevrolet in the fall NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond Raceway and finished fourth.

While commenting on a Joe Gibbs Racing tweet announcing Martin Truex Jr.’s 2019 Auto Owners Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series scheme on Friday, Earnhardt, a two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, announced that he will compete at Darlington Raceway come Labor Day weekend.

Earnhardt Jr. didn’t announce if he’d compete in any races prior to the prestigious race weekend in Darlington, South Carolina, but as of now, the North Carolina native has 140 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, amassing 24 wins, 10 poles and 68 top-five and 92 top-10 finishes.

On Thursday, Darlington Raceway announced that the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 will start at 4 p.m. ET come August 31. The race will broadcast live on NBC and the Motor Racing Network (MRN).
