RICHMOND, Va.– Kyle Larson captured the victory in Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond International Raceway after holding off a dominant Justin Allgaier in an exciting NASCAR Overtime finish.

A caution on lap 240 set the field up for a wild restart with five laps to go. All of the lead lap cars pitted and returned to the track with scuffed tires. Justin Allgaier, driver of the JR Motorsports No. 7 Brandt Chevrolet, entered the pits as the leader after dominating throughout the race, but he left the pits in second behind Ty Dillon.

On the restart, Ty Dillon jumped ahead in his Richard Childress Racing No. 3 Red Kap/Prudential Overall Supply Chevrolet as Allgaier got left behind on the outside line. The caution suddenly came out again on lap 247 as chaos broke out in the back of the field. The accident involved six cars, and the red flag was displayed for 2 minutes and 43 seconds.

Upon reviewing the previous restart, Ty Dillon was penalized by NASCAR for a restart violation. He was sent to the rear of the field for the upcoming restart.

The race restarted for NASCAR Overtime. Kyle Larson led the field to green in his No. 42 Credit One Bank Chevrolet with Allgaier on the outside lane. Larson surged out to the lead and left Allgaier behind him. Allgaier was unable to make a pass to try and capture the victory. The final caution came out for an accident involving Cole Custer, Ryan Reed and Matt Tifft after the leaders passed the Overtime Line. Larson was then deemed the winner of the race based on the NASCAR Overtime rules, as he was the leader when the caution came out.

“I was able to be the leader for that last restart,” said Larson. “Justin (Allgaier) took off way better than I had wanted him to and I’m surprised I cleared him off of two because I thought he would hang wide outside, if not pass me like he did to Austin earlier in the race. I think we were able to clear him when they crashed and they threw the caution and got the Overtime win.”

Larson added, “Didn’t have the best car at all. Justin was by far the best. I felt like Ty was probably next best, then me and Austin were pretty even. Our Credit One Bank Chevy was good enough to be in contention to win.”

Allgaier didn’t leave empty-handed on Saturday though, as he claimed the Dash 4 Cash victory that paid $100,000. Saturday’s runner-up finish is Allgaier’s fourth top-10 finish this season. He trails point leader, Elliott Sadler by 41 points in the standings.

As Larson took the victory and Allgaier claimed the second-place finishing spot, Daniel Hemric was able to race forward to finish in the third position after starting on the pole for the ToyotaCare 250. Austin Dillon finished in the fourth position while Ryan Blaney rounded out the top-5.

Completing the top-10 was Darrell Wallace Jr., Elliott Sadler, Michael Annett, Casey Mears and Spencer Gallagher.

There were seven cautions for a total of 50 laps in the 254-lap race. Five drivers led laps over the course of the event. Allgaier led a race high of 157 laps. Austin Dillon led 58 laps, Hemric was in the top spot for 26 laps, race winner Larson, only led 10 laps and Ty Dillon was the leader for three laps.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series returns to competition next weekend as the competitors take on the wild speeds of Talladega Superspeedway for the Sparks Energy 300 on Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m. ET. Coverage will be found on FOX and the Motor Racing Network (MRN).
