2017 Season To Heat Up With Spring Sizzler 225 On Tap This Sunday At Franklin County Speedway

With race number one in the books and the season off to a strong start the competitors at Franklin County Speedway will be digging hard when the green flag waves on the Spring Sizzler 225 this Sunday at 3pm.

Kelly Kingery and Kyle Dudley opened the 2017 season two weeks ago with victories in twin Late Model Stock Car features but there’s a handful of drivers looking to get their first win in the Spring Sizzler.  Those drivers include runner up finishers from the twins Dennis Holdren and Ross “BooBoo” Dalton.

Holdren led 34 of 35 laps in the first race of the evening before a bump and run by Kingery stole the trophy away from him.  Holdren did however pick up a win in the Mini Stock division on the same evening.  Dalton was just a lap or so away from catching Dudley in the second race before the checkered flag fell and ended his strong run.  Both drivers will look to take home a trophy in the 75-lap feature on Sunday afternoon but Kingery and Dudley are poised to win for the second time this season.

Jason Warsing dominated the V8 Street division race despite calamity at nearly every turn.  Warsing who won 11 of 13 races last season is already off to strong start but pole winner Mark Arrington is looking to unseat him.  Arrington had a great run after starting third due to an invert on the starting positions and looked poised to finish second until he was crashed on the final lap by a hard charging competitor.  Mike Worthington also looks to be strong in his new green machine with a handful of challengers expected to make their first start this weekend.

Holdren as mentioned above picked up the win in the Mini Stock division despite a run in with 2016 championship contender Chad Burnopp.  The collision coming to the green flag led to Burnopp’s tire being cut and a dismal sixth place finish despite leading the most laps.  Burnopp will be raring to go this weekend to get his car to victory lane but hot on his heels will no doubt be Jessie Yopp in the Lightning McQueen car and who knows what new challengers will emerge.

Tony Housman picked up the win in a hotly contested U-Car division that saw the top drivers running close to one another.  2016 division champion Larry Isley, Jr. finished second much to the dismay of third place finisher and pole winner WJ Altizer.  Altizer thought that Isley was blocking him and thought he had the car to beat.  Several new cars and drivers returning for the first time this season are expected to challenge for the win this Sunday.

Also on the schedule for this weekend will be the first of the Modified division races with drivers such as Eddie Gibson, Jonathan Cook, Richard Thomas, Tim Maxey and others expected to compete for the win in the 35-lap race.  The East Coast Flatheads and the Blue Ridge Mini Cups Future Stars division will also compete this Sunday.

Join us Sunday April 23rd for the Spring Sizzler 225 for seven divisions of racing plus bicylce racing for the kids, street car drag racing for the adults and free train rides for the kids as well.  Adult tickets $10, kids 5-12 $5 and children under 4 get in free.
