MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – History is in the making at Myrtle Beach Speedway during the Horry County Fair presented by Philanthropist.com. A 4th generation of Petty’s and a 2nd generation of Gibbs will race in this Saturday night’s NASCAR Whelen Late Model series.

Thad Moffit, (Richard Petty’s grandson) is a 4th generation Petty’s driver. He will wheel the #46 car against Ty Gibbs (Joe Gibb’s grandson), who is a 2nd generation of Gibbs, in the NASCAR Whelen Late Model races at the historical Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Moffitt has been progressing nicely up the ranks of stock car racing. The 16 year-old won his first stock car race last year and won the Challenger division of the Southeast Limited Late Model series in 2016. He made his ARCA debut last weekend with a 16th place finish at historic Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville.

Gibbs comes from a slightly different legacy. He is Coy Gibbs’ son and, while Coy and JD made some attempts at racing in their younger years, neither of them had the success of Lee and Richard Petty. Gibbs is forging his own legacy however. After cutting his racing teeth at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, NC, he has moved to Late Model stock cars. The 14 year-old has already been to victory lane this season with wins in the Southeast Limited Late Model Series at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.

Five action packed races, all back-to-back on Saturday night during the fair, is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat! Watch NASCAR Late Models Twin Features, Charger Series, Mini Stocks, Vintage Cars and Skid Plate races all in one night. Action starts at 1:45pm with a free Driver Meet and Greet.
