Nicholas Fulghum scored his first career win back in August. That victory gave him confidence that he can contend for the win in the G&S Auto Body Charger race during Friday night’s portion of the Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, North Carolina.
When Fulghum, 20, from Sims, North Carolina, headed to Southern National on August 20th, he and his father, Mark Fulghum, had a good feeling that his first win might finally come. Fulghum had just got his engine back for that race after being sidelined for part of the season due to an engine failure.
Their confidence was well placed. During the race, Fulghum got past Ronald Renfrow and then held off a challenge from 2015 division champion Michael O’Brien to score the win – his first Southern National victory.
“The day of, me and my dad had a really good feeling like it was going to be our day,” Fulghum said. “It was great to get that win. Me and my dad have been doing this for a total of six years and it’s been nothing but heartbreak. That win definitely boosted our confidence.”
Now, Fulghum is as confident as ever heading into the Thanksgiving Classic, hoping he can hold back division champion Robert Arch, Michael O’Brien, Brian Obiedzenski and a host of other challengers who will congregate at Southern National Motorsports Park for the 50 lap race.
“I think we can be just as competitive as anybody out there,” Fulghum remarked. “I’ve got hope for us. We’ll give them a run for their money.”
The G&S Auto Body Charger 50 lap race will be one of the headline events in Friday night’s portion of the three day Thanksgiving Classic. Friday night will also feature the Legends Cup, presented by Stancil Products, and Street Stock racing. Racing begins at 7pm.
