RIDGEWAY, Va. – The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series drivers hit the asphalt at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday to kick-off the annual ValleyStar Credit Union 300 weekend.
Mike Looney, driver of the No. 87 A-1 Heating and Cooling Ford captured the pole for the prestigious event. Looney ran a lap of 20.323 seconds at 93.175 mph. Two-time Martinsville Speedway winner Lee Pulliam will start alongside of him in the No. 5 Kiker Tree Service Chevrolet after missing out on the pole by a mere 0.019 seconds. A stout field of 71 cars took times in qualifying on Saturday.
The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 is set to get underway at 12 p.m. on Sunday, beginning with three, 25-lap heat races and a last chance race. A field of 42 drivers will take the green flag in the 200-lap main event as they compete for $25,000 and of course, the iconic grandfather clock.
