JOLIET, Ill. — Shane Lee scored his first-ever pole in the ARCA Racing Series on Thursday afternoon and will lead the field to green for the night’s SCOTT 150 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Lee clocked in with a time of 30.468 seconds to win the pole ahead of ARCA championship leader Chase Briscoe, who turned in a lap of  30.503 seconds.

The driver of the No. 32 Win-Tron Racing Toyota claimed the pole for tonight’s race following a seventh-place effort in the lone practice session for the event.

“Not necessarily,” Lee said on whether if he was surprised by the jump from his practice speed to his qualifying position. “As far as practice went we were seventh without doing a mock run.

“We just struggled through Turns 3 and 4 all day across the bumps and I found something on the line in the last couple of laps of practice and it happened to work out for me in qualifying.”

Third and fourth-place drivers John Wes Townley and Chad Finley were the only other drivers to break the 31-second barrier with respective times of 30.727 and 30.884 seconds.

Matt Kurzejewski, Ty Majeski, Kyle Weatherman, Christopher Bell, Dalton Sargeant and Austin Cindric rounded out the top-10 of the qualifying standings upon the close of the session.

Drivers Richard Tackman, Con Nicolopoulos and Josh Williams did not take times during the midday session and will start from the rear of the field for tonight’s 100-lap race.
