NASCAR XFINITY Series regular Ryan Reed will make his Sprint Cup Series debut in three weeks at Talladega Superspeedway in the Alabama 500.
Reed will participate in the 188-lap race with his XFINITY team, Roush Fenway Racing, in a No. 99 Ford Fusion that is to be sponsored by Lilly Diabetes and the American Diabetes Association.
Reed, a driver in the XFINITY Series’s Chase, is to be the fourth driver out of the Roush Fenway stable for the race – joining Trevor Bayne, Greg Biffle and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the lineup.
In 99 starts in the XFINITY Series, Reed has one victory (Daytona, Feb. 2015) to his credit with a further two top-five and seven top-10 finishes under his belt.
Entering the next series race at Dover International Speedway, Reed presently sits fourth in the Chase’s Round of 12 standings.
“I am really looking forward to Talladega and racing in the Sprint Cup race,” Reed said. “For anyone that has ever had the chance to get behind the wheel of a race car, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is the ultimate goal.
“To realize that dream and to have been able to do it by properly managing my diabetes means a lot to me and the people that have stood beside me. My goal is to qualify for the race, have a strong performance and continue to show people that with the proper management and support team you can overcome the obstacles in front of you – even diabetes – and accomplish your dreams.”
In three starts at Talladega in the XFINITY Series, Reed has a best finish of 24th that came in 2014.
