Mason Mingus Making ARCA Return at Salem with Mason Mitchell Motorsportsby Kyle Pokrefky September 9, 2016 0 comments
It will be the Mason and Mason show at Salem Speedway this Saturday as Mason Mingus will return to the ARCA Racing Series with Mason Mitchell Motorsports for the Eddie Gilstrap Motors Fall Classic.
Mingus, a full-time ARCA competitor in 2013, will make his first start in the series in over two years in MMM’s No. 98 Chevrolet.
Sponsorship for the one-race effort will be provided by Kentucky811 as well as Team Construction. The start will also be accompanied by a retro ‘throwback’ scheme to a livery utilized by Benny Parsons in the late 1960s.
In 34 career starts in the ARCA Racing Series, Mingus has five top-five and 25 top-10 finishes to his credit with two pole awards to boot.
The 21-year old from Brentwood, Tenn. has a best race finish of third that was achieved three times at Talladega Superspeedway, Toledo Speedway and Berlin Raceway in 2013.
At Salem, Mingus has four top-10 finishes in five starts with a best finish of sixth coming in 2012’s running of the Fall Classic.
“Salem is probably the most physically and mentally demanding track on the ARCA schedule, which is why it is always such an entertaining race for the fans,” Mingus said. “It’s a very tough race track because it is so worn out and also such a high speed race track. There is very little grip and tires fall off very quick so you have to constantly be saving your tires.”
“Salem means a lot to me, it’s where I won my first Late Model race. I am very excited to partner up with MMM for the 100th ARCA race at Salem. MMM has had a lot of success at Salem in the past and I think together we will have a great run and hopefully pick up a win.”
Mason Mitchell Motorsports’s No. 98 entry is coming off of a sixth-place finish with owner Mitchell driving at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds last Sunday and enters Salem sixth in the owners standings.
As an organization, Mason Mitchell Motorsports has two top-five finishes and three top-10s at Salem in six starts with a best finish of second coming with Mitchell behind the wheel in 2014’s Fall Classic.
